A Brave Young Soldier
We were privileged to be a small part of a heart-warming, but also heart-breaking story recently. We were contacted by Yvonne Stott community fundraiser for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation at the Royal Preston Hospital, to tell us about a boy called Corey.
Corey recently took part in the Cross Bay Walk in Lancashire to raise over £400 for the foundation. This incredible young man is in care, has been all his life until about 18 months ago when he was introduced to a gentleman who became his foster father.
Sadly, Corey’s new father has himself been diagnosed with inoperable cancer. And so, Corey has gone back into care once again, as his dad’s health has rapidly declined. Corey is just 12 years old.
Yvonne was set to meet with Corey to receive his cheque and to thank him for his efforts in raising so much money. She was compelled to do something to lift the spirit of this brave young boy, who clearly was experiencing tough times of his own.
This is where we came in – Yvonne discovered that among Corey’s interests were dogs – especially Huskies!
For us, this was a no brainer – to be a surprise guest for Corey with our husky family was the least we could do, and it was lovely to see his reaction when we appeared outside the Rosemere unit at the Royal Preston Hospital.
We also got a chance to meet the incredible staff and nurses who do such amazing work in caring for patients at the RPH centre. To see them smile and stop to spend time with us and Corey was a wonderful experience, one that we won’t easily forget.
