Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

It’s been a funny old year for many of us I know, but for us – we almost didn’t have a business left! December and January brought us the worst bout of illness that as a family we’ve ever experienced, we all went down at some point with either COVID or flu, which took forever to lift. Then our partner Martin blew his knee out walking alone with the pack in the remotest part of the moors, so that was him out of action for months, and to top it all, I lost a major sauce of income and needed to take a full time job to keep the wolf…

    A Brave Young Soldier

We were privileged to be a small part of a heart-warming, but also heart-breaking story recently. We were contacted by Yvonne Stott community fundraiser for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation at the Royal Preston Hospital, to tell us about a boy called Corey. Corey recently took part in the Cross Bay Walk in Lancashire to raise over £400 for the foundation. This incredible young man is in care, has been all his life until about 18 months ago when he was introduced to a gentleman who became his foster father. Sadly, Corey’s new father has himself been diagnosed with inoperable cancer. And so, Corey has gone back into care once again, as…

    Out with the Young’uns

One of the most rewarding things for us is seeing the awe and delight of a child’s reaction when they come face to face with a ‘Snow Dog’ that is sometimes as big as they are. We were delighted to spend some time with Sherelle and her lovely family recently. The boys were in full control of Loki whilst we took a pre-Christmas stroll around a local reservoir. The whole experience was extremely pleasant, and mum Sherelle said that her boys were looking forward to meeting the rest of the pack one day, adding – “Loki is a beautiful husky, well mannered, calming and very child friendly. He put my…

    NHS Workers go for Free!

We were in attendance at the Community Wellbeing event at the Victoria Hall in Bolton, organised by The Social Prescribing Team at Bolton GP Federation. More than 30 Community Partners showcased what they can do to help the people of Bolton in the community, and we were proud to be invited along to talk about how we could help to aid recovery for many of the folks that these amazing charities support. We met some truly inspiring people and received an enthusiastic response to our Walking with Huskies and Therapy Husky service for those less mobile. Also launched at the event was our November Special – Free Tokens for NHS…

    Breakfast with Heroes

In November, Trustee Sam Phillips invited us for breakfast at the Bury Veterans Hub Café. Just ahead of Remembrance Sunday, it seemed particularly poignant to support this incredible charity that offers help and support to veterans and their families on everything from financial issues to mental health, and crucially, a warm and friendly place to meet, chat and banter. Loki was there with us to testify first hand that the breakfast was top quality – after polishing off a plate of sausages he then set to work on stealing mine as well! This was a great morning and we were very grateful to Sam, who along with Shirley Simmons and…

    The Guild of Help

In October, The Bolton Guild of Help opened a new Veterans support Drop-In Centre at the Bridge Café, Bradford Street, Bolton. The new Centre will offer support to our local veterans, their families and those still serving. Key issues such as benefits and financial management advice and the provision of white goods and furniture will be high on the agenda. But the Centre will also be providing critical support to people suffering from mental health issues including depression and PTSD. We were honoured to be invited to the Centre and Richard Davies, Guild Trustee, introduced us to some veterans so that they could be made more aware of how our…
